The House of Un-American Activities Committee
The House of Un-American Activities Committee, otherwise known as the HUAC was a committed on the House of Representatives that thoroughly investigated many people who were accused of having communist ties or believes. The committee began in 1938, investing fascist groups during the Great Depression, but once The McCarthy Era hit, this was their main focus. If a person was looked at as a suspect they would recid a subpoena which is a writ ordering a person to court. Once in court, the HAUC would hounded the suspect about their political beliefs and asked to reveal any knowledge they know of others. If they chose to keep quiet, most times they would be sent to prison due to contempt of Congress. Below is footage from a meeting in 1950.
