Salem Witch Trials Documentary
This source has been used by millions of teachers before they start teaching about The Crucible. It is a great 40 minute documentary created by the History Channel that touches upon the time period and events. Firstly, it has a variety of historians giving in depth explanations on the event. It provides a series of paintings from the time period and explains them. For example, at 3:27 it shows a painting of a woman’s bare back and people pointing at a scare. This was because one of the ways they would tell if one was a witch was to see if they had a “devil’s mark”. This devil’s mark was a symbol for when the witch had made a pact with the devil. This documentary not only touches on who the girls were and who the first people who were hanged were, but also on the methods that they would discover a witch. It gives a more factual and informative aspect onto The Crucible and the Salem Witch Trials.
